I had a crush on Callistus back in our first year at Community College, though it was very short-lived once I found out who he was dating at the time. Fast forward to 2020 — he had earned his pilot's license two years before, and UWI Cave Hill had just suspended face-to-face classes, sending students back home because of Covid.
On May 17th, 2020, Callistus decided to take a bicycle ride down to the tarmac. While there, he stopped on the old airport take-off strip and snapped a photo from his point of view, showing the front of his bike with an airplane emoji in the corner. It was the height of the pandemic, when airlines had practically stopped operating and the entire world felt paused.
He posted the photo to his Instagram story, and I replied, “Any space on that plane?”
From that moment on, we've been inseparable ever since.
